President's Message

Bethany Gold, CPC

As January quickly approaches, I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year. I am very proud to  have  served as your president these past few years and am honored that you have chosen me again to carry on in 2015. Thank you to all for your  continued support, your volunteerism, and friendship. 2014 was an exciting year in the staffing and recruitment industry. The Rhode Island  economy has finally turned the corner and our offices are enjoying prosperity once again.

I am proud of all that we have accomplished on your behalf in 2014 and will continue to work diligently to host education and legislative programs. Past year programs include a joint SHRM meeting on Recruiting provided by AIRS; Workers' Compensation seminar by Higgins, Cavanagh & Cooney, ACA Compliance seminar hosted by Cornerstone Group, and the PAC kickoff meeting at Chapel Grille. I would like to thank our industry partners who helped sponsor some of these events. Our Legislative outreach program, under the direction of Susan Fabrizzio, Scott Seaback, Lee Johnson, Paul DeRoche (GPCC), Toby Malara (ASA) and the entire legislative committee has been a huge success. They have overseen the development of a number of issue papers and responses to legislation that impacts our industry. As a result the Independent Contractor bill was defeated for the year.

We are vigorously preparing for another year of legislative advocacy on your behalf and invite you to participate with the above named team to help fend off adverse legislation negatively impacting the staffing and recruitment industry

We were honored once again this year to receive the Legislative Award at the ASA Staffing World Conference. RISA is an affiliate member of ASA. Truly credit belongs to the people in the arena that are working to get things done. Please take a moment and thank the RISA officers and directors that make all of this happen on our behalf.

As we go forward in 2015, I invite you to participate in the event planning for the year. We are focusing on hosting a "Law Day" at the State House with several speakers that will address issues facing our business. Plans are under way to host another joint meeting with the RI SHRM group and a fun event, "Sunset Sail in Newport", for the end of June. Please consider joining one of our committees, attend a board meeting, get involved, be part of the future of the staffing and recruitment industry on the Rhode Island scene. Together we can make a difference!

On behalf of the officers and directors of RISA, we wish you a prosperous New Year.
